2018/19 Technical Meeting

(Members/Non Members Event)

Topic: John Hart Project – Challenges and Mitigations

On May 1st, 2018 a significant milestone was celebrated at the $1.1-billion John Hart hydroelectric project, which is Canada’s first public-private partnership (P3) of a design-build-finance-rehabilitate hydroelectric project of this size and complexity. Achieving this milestone was no small feat; work leading up to this point is not limited only for example in managing the underground rock removal and blasting of 2.2 kilometers of tunnels. In this presentation, the implemented mitigation measures against the major challenges such as encountering unforeseen geological feature and late delivery of critical equipment will be reviewed and discussed.

Presenter:  Royden Heays, P.Eng

He has 50 years of experience in a wide range of disciplines including design build contracting, advising owners, project management, claim negotiation, dispute resolution, contract administration, contract document preparation, construction management, site supervision, civil design, feasibility studies and site investigations for hydroelectric, steam turbine, gas turbine, cogeneration power plants and irrigation schemes, offshore drilling platforms and industrial and petrochemical plants in Canada, Peoples Republic of China, England, Australia, Nigeria, Indonesia and Sudan
